FADAMA constructs N450m access road for rice farmers in Lagos

FADAMA III Additional Financing says it has constructed a N450m worth of access road for rice farmers in Itoikin community in Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State.

The Acting State Coordinator of FADAMA III AF, Lagos State, Mr. Ade Obayemi, made the disclosure on Wednesday, when the 6th World Bank/Federal Government team visited the rice project sites.

Obayemi said the completed roads were parts of the 13.6 km road construction that is ongoing in other parts of the community where rice production is taking place.

He said, “This is one of the FADAMA III AF intervention in the state and we are happy about it.

“This intervention has already open up this community to create access to markets because before now, it was difficult to bring in inputs for farmers and for the buyers to come in.

“But with this, there is a big relief for farmers from those challenges.”

The coordinator said that rice outputs from the area will be increased and made easier for the buyers to access the farm sites.

Commending FADAMA III AF projects in the state, Alhaja Anifat Hassan, a farmer and the Chairman, Abundant Wealth Rice Production, said the programme had enriched the people.

She said, “FADAMA III AF is a laudable programme and my prayer is that this should be extended to other farm produce beside rice production because it has brought food and knowledge of mechanised farming to us.”

Also, the President, Nigerian Association of Small and Medium Cooperative Group, Dr Adams Adebayo, lauded FADAMA programmes in the community, saying that the initiative has impacted positively on the people.

He said, “FADAMA agricultural programme has added another opportunity for us to create wealth for Nigeria in the area of food security.”

In his remark, the Team Leader, commended Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos, Dr Ben Albert, for prompt payment of the state’s counterpart fund.

He said, “From what I have seen, Lagos is very committed to this programme and achieving its aims is assured because the standard and the quality of work I have seen here is encouraging and commendable.”

According to Albert, construction of Tractor Service Centre for farmers is ongoing with buildings where inputs would be kept for farmers to access.
